This course is intended to introduce Family Group Conferencing to new co-ordinators, advocates and other service providers likely to attend a family group conference.
Content
- learn about the history and principles of the family group conference model take a critical look at the family group conference process and the co-ordinators role within it
- develop the skills needed for providing clear and relevant information to the family group conference
- consider the role of children and young people in their family group conference and how to get their voices heard
- discuss how best to make children and young people central to the process and to consider the role of advocates
- debate and discuss any issues and anxieties about the family group conference process
What you can expect from the course
This course examines the role of the coordinator within the family group conference model. In concentrating on the coordinators role the 2 days allow the history to be explored together with the skills and a detailed look at the process. Role play will be included for the second day to allow exploration and practice of the specialised skills involved in conducting and facilitating family group conferences. The 4 step model examined can be applied to a family group conference taking place which has been referred by any party. At the end of the 2 days each delegate will have been provided with the skills together with the practice to participate in a family group conference.
Evaluation
Delegates are invited to evaluate each day of the course via group and individual evaluation
